Otoacoustic Emission is a test used to assess cochlear (inner ear) function by measuring sound waves produced in response to auditory stimuli. A small probe is placed in the ear canal, emitting sounds and recording the echoes returned from the cochlea. This non-invasive test helps detect hearing loss, particularly in newborns and young children, by assessing the function of outer hair cells in the cochlea.
